Kerrison Rongeur Sizes and Footplate Thickness Chart
Footplate thickness is the spec that decides whether an instrument fits the space you have, and it is the one most catalogs bury. Here it is in full.
Standard footplate. Jaw widths 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 5 and 6mm. Thicknesses 2.1, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 3.0 and 3.3mm. The general-purpose plate: strongest, most forgiving, and the right default when the interlaminar space is not tight.
Thin footplate. Jaw widths 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and 5mm. Thicknesses 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4mm. Slides under ligament and bone where a standard plate would have to lever a space open first.
Ultra-thin footplate. Jaw widths 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5mm. Thicknesses 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0mm. For a stenotic canal or a cervical case where every tenth of a millimeter of clearance is real.
All thicknesses are ±0.1mm.
A thinner plate buys you clearance and costs you a little stiffness, so the honest guidance is to use the thickest plate that will fit rather than reaching for ultra-thin by default.
