Downbiting Kerrison Rongeur

Most Kerrisons bite up. Sometimes the bone you need is below the jaw, not above it, and forcing a standard Kerrison to do that job means rotating your wrist into a position you cannot control.

A downbiting Kerrison presents the cutting edge downward so you can take the inferior edge of a lamina, work beneath an overhang, or clear the caudal side of an interlaminar window without fighting the instrument. The 40° down is the general-purpose choice; the 90° down goes where the approach is steep.

Standard or thin footplates, bites from 1mm to 4mm, with or without an ejector, all on an 8″ shaft. The thin footplate slips into a space where a standard plate would have to lever bone apart first.

These carry the same black non-glare coating and the same hand finishing as every Wiggins Kerrison, and they are made to be sharpened and serviced rather than thrown away.
